![]() ![]() Ammonia fumes will give brass a greenish-brown color, but don’t let ammonia touch the brass as this will cause spotting. ![]() Leave this until the desired color is reached and take it out and rinse it well with warm water. Place the brass item in an airtight plastic bag with an old cloth soaked in ammonia. The trick to bending brass without breaking is to apply heat to the material before you bend it or use other methods such as using a bender, a vise, or a rolling pin if you’re at home. Does brass bend easily?īrass is a soft metal that can bend easily if you know what you’re doing. With regular upkeep, your brass will maintain its beautiful shine for years to come. To keep your brass looking shiny and clean, avoid touching the piece too often (the oils on your skin can accelerate tarnishing) and use a soft cloth when cleaning or polishing to prevent scratches on the surface. Lastly, wipe with a soft rag soaked with WD-40 (note – do not spray WD-40 directly on the bronze). Make sure all of the soap suds are wiped away and completely dry. … Next, use a clean cloth and clean water to wipe down the piece. ![]() Can you use wd40 on bronze?įirst you will need to gather clean clothes, mild soap, water, a bucket and WD-40. They’re a safe and inexpensive alternative to commercial cleaners. In many cases, simple household products such as vinegar and salt can clean brass. Over time, even the shiniest brass gets tarnished, dirty and dingy. … No unlacquered brass piece will look exactly like another due to the living finish – some door knobs may be used more often than others, allowing the patina to develop faster. This results in a living finish that changes over time. Unlacquered hardware is essentially brass that has had its protective coating stripped. … Brass is often plated to make it food safe, which also means that there’s no reason for concern when using this kind of material.Īdvertisement What does unlacquered brass look like? If you see brass with patina on it, you can be sure that it’s pure and non-toxic. That colour will be a blue-ish green, just like the Statue of Liberty. This is largely because about two-thirds of brass’ makeup is actually copper - so it behaves in a similar way over time. Does brass turn green?ĭoes brass turn green? … Brass architecture, on the other hand, behaves a lot like copper when exposed to air and water - it’ll take on a blue-green color. … After the brass dries, it can be buffed or polished to a mirror-like brilliance. If the brass is severely tarnished, you may have to use special chemical kits to restore the brass. The brass must be perfectly clean or the chemicals may corrode and discolor the brass, so wash and rinse several times, as necessary. Brass is an alloy that’s usually made up of 67% copper and 33% zinc. The copper has reacted with oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. When you see that green layer on these metals (usually called patina or verdigris) it’s because of a chemical reaction. My podcast projects in Timery have the same names of the podcast sessions in Audio Hijack. ![]() The latest version of the amazing Audio Hijack by Rogue Amoeba (which I’ve used for years to record my microphone’s input as well as a backup recording of Skype/Zoom/Discord calls) comes with a new Scripting section that you can access from the right sidebar of a recording session. Kolide: Endpoint Security Powered by People Try for Free! ![]() So for this week’s Automation April story, I’m sharing the custom system I created to trigger a single shortcut that starts time tracking in Timery based on the show I’m recording in that specific moment. Wouldn’t it be great if there was One True Way to automatically start tracking my real recording time when I start talking into the microphone for a show?Īs it turns out, thanks to the latest update to Audio Hijack – the new version 4.0 that recently launched on macOS – there is. I could automatically start a timer when a calendar event for a show is due in my calendar, but that also doesn’t work for me since it doesn’t account for the time before we actually record the show when I may be chatting privately with Myke and Stephen. These tasks distract me from time tracking and, as a result, I often forget to start a timer for when I begin recording and, conversely, stop the timer when I’m done. You see, when I sit down to record a show like Connected or AppStories, I need to take care of key tasks such as making sure my audio inputs are correct, checking out notes for the show’s outline and intro, and keeping an eye on the Connected audience in Relay’s Discord server. The approach worked well for MacStories and the Club, but podcast timers turned out to be a different beast. How I access my saved timers from the Home Screen. I split my work projects into three main areas – MacStories, Club, and podcasts – removed redundant sub-tasks, and grouped related activities under the same tags for more reliable filtering. I cleaned up my saved timers and shortcut that activates those timers, which I can now trigger system-wide via Raycast on the Mac and the Shortcuts widgets on iPad. ![]() So I went back to the drawing board of my Timery projects and reorganized everything with simplicity and ease of activation in mind. There’s also the opposite problem – forgetting to stop a long-running timer – which John explained and fixed in a separate story for Automation April. For time tracking to be effective, you need to remember to start a timer whenever you’re working on something too much friction in the process – such as having to carefully pick from a list of similar projects – defeats the whole purpose of it. My daily routine is different now – and it’ll continue to change in 2022 – and I wanted to get rid of the overhead caused by a time tracking system that was too granular. I appreciate the insights into my habits and patterns afforded by time tracking and Timery’s excellent Reports view, but lately I’ve felt like my setup with projects, tags, and sub-tasks was too convoluted since it was based on a structure I designed years ago. For the past week, I’ve been rethinking my approach to time tracking with the Timery app with a focus on simplicity and automation. ![]() ![]() ![]()
